Frac tank weight comes down to two things: storage capacity and the density of what you store. Capacity is fixed per tank. Adjust for fluid weight

The same tank carries very different loads depending on the fluid. Weight per gallon drives the total:

  • Crude oil/diesel: ~7.1–7.2 lbs/gal (lighter than water)
  • Fresh/frac water: 8.34 lbs/gal
  • Produced water/brine: 8.5–10 lbs/gal
  • Weighted drilling fluids (mud): 9–18+ lbs/gal
