When Hurricane Ian made landfall in 2022, the deadly storm caused $113 billion worth of damage and left communities in Florida and the Carolinas facing unthinkable devastation. As emergency response contractors and government agencies scrambled to find vital equipment and activate support, the Ironclad team mobilized three East Coast branches to establish an immediate and lasting presence on the road to recovery.

The Challenge

With 85 mile-per-hour winds and heavy rainfall causing significant flooding, a wide range of equipment was needed to support impacted communities. Ironclad’s branch in Evans, Georgia, had the benefit of proximity, but was quickly tapped out of equipment as contractors hustled to get assets where they were most needed.

The Response

The Evans branch’s assets were quickly allocated to the western part of Charlotte, North Carolina. In turn, Ironclad’s Baltimore and Richmond branches were activated to get additional equipment to the eastern end of Charlotte all the way to Greensboro.

The Outcome

In total, Ironclad was able to mobilize 56 21,000-gallon frac tanks to support recovery efforts, starting with immediate needs and maintaining a presence to support ongoing storage and cleanup as efforts shifted from rescue to recovery. The team also:

  • Helped contractors evaluate “hot zones” to prioritize asset delivery where most needed
  • Designated water- and oil-tight sealed rolloff cover tarps as needed to minimize potential contamination
  • Remained active in recovery efforts and maintained a presence in North Carolina communities for a year following impact.
