The Challenge
A major pipeline operator needed to hydro test a line in a remote stretch of the Mojave Desert in California. Before a single foot of pipe could be pressure-tested, the site needed water. A lot of it.
The complication was not the test. It was getting the water there.
There was no municipal hookup anywhere near the site. The nearest viable source sat 32 miles away. And the work was happening in an environmentally sensitive area, which left no room for spills, overflows, or shortcuts. This was a logistics problem before it was an equipment problem, and it needed both solved at once.
The Response
IRONCLAD Powered by Mersino built the operation around a 60,000-barrel IronMax above-ground storage tank, positioned on site as the central holding point for the entire hydro test.
Around it, the crew staged the equipment to move and manage the volume:
- Stainless steel tanker trailers running a continuous haul from the water source to the site
- Diesel driven dumps sizes – 4”, 8” and 12” to move water from the storage tanks into the pipeline
- The IronMax tank sized to hold the full fill with capacity to spare
The numbers lined up the way they needed to. A 60,000-barrel tank holds roughly 2.5 million gallons. The job called for approximately 2.7 million gallons trucked in. The right asset, matched to the job, available when it was needed.

Execution
The water did not move itself. Filling a tank this size from a source 32 miles out meant a sustained trucking operation: load, haul, offload, and back again, run after run, until 2.7 million gallons sat on site.
Every trip ran with the environmental conditions front of mind. Containment stayed tight. Transfers stayed clean. The crew kept the fill on pace without putting the surrounding terrain at risk.
No municipal supply to lean on. No corners cut. Just coordinated logistics and equipment built to perform in the field.

The Outcome
The tank was filled. The hydro test moved forward on the operator’s timeline. The work was completed with no municipal water dependency and no environmental incident, in a setting that allowed for neither error.
